Today I began my 15th year on staff at Journey Community Church with an all-staff community outreach at San Miguel Elementary School in Lemon Grove. We gave our time normally dedicated to our staff devotions and weekend programming meeting to clean out and organize a teachers resource center that has been needing some attention for 10 years. Do to budget cuts, staff reductions and limited funding what we may consider normal operational tasks are now luxuries.
This is a first of what will be many opportunities to serve our neighboring communities. Specifically we are building a long-term relationship with this school under the great leadership Principal Heidi Bergerner (pictured below in the center) that you will be hearing more about in the near future.
And what is true in almost every instance where we live beyond ourselves and for others, that those serving not necessarily the recipients are the ones who benefit the most and are grateful for the experience.
Our team did an incredible job! And our team was incredibly energized, already asking when the next team outing will be.
San Miguel Elementary is considered at Title 1 school with a good portion of children coming from families of under-resourced means.
