I believe most guys have been in this situation where you enter a relationship with a girl believing there is incredible promise for a long term relationship (or at least that is what you hope) only to be disappointed or should I say brokenhearted because the feelings are not reciprocated. Often times it is our own fault that we, as the guy, find ourselves in this situation because the girl is upfront with her desire to "just be friends." Yet despite that knowledge, we still move forward hoping that those gestures and interactions, which from her perspective are purely on a friendship level, has the possibility to build to something more serious.
Now that is one of the key story lines of (500) Days of Summer. I absolutely loved this film, along with Whip It and Up In the Air, were my favorite movies of 2009 and I am excited that I get to speak from this movie at New Format this Sunday (5/30) at their series God at the Movies.
In preparation for this message here are some potential spiritual themes that I am thinking about addressing ,but I would love to get your input on other potential insights. Please let me know.
- Is there such a thing as love?
- What does mean to be right, but just not right for you?
- The environment we are in affects everything ... our outlook on life, relationships etc.
- What it means to be happy for others, when it comes at a cost to us.
- All things work together for good, for those who love God and are called according to His purpose.
- Our thoughts are not His thoughts.
