New Moleskine Journal

Today I found a new Moleskine Journal -- two actually.  It may be hard to tell by the picture but they are both blue.  The first time I have seen them in this color and the one on the right is the smallest I have seen yet  at  2 1/2 x 4 inches.  They both were sold in a two-pack with one being a classic blue color and the other navy blue.  For those who know me, you know  I use these journals exclusively and it is something I give away as a gift often.

A Historic Night in Yankee Stadium and We Were There! Yesterday the 2008 Major League Baseball regular season ended and with the New York Yankees not playing in the post season -- it is still full of great memories in particular the last game played in New York Yankee Stadium that my son and I attended last week Sunday -- September 21. Here are few pictures from that historic night. Part of the pre-game festivities included honoring players from the past. Here are a couple of my favorites. And it was the last time two of my current favorites would be announced in this stadium Rhett had fun in his own way -- years from now I am sure he will be able to take in the significance of the evening.

Booed with a Purpose This past weekend in view of the Oakland Raider/San Diego Charger game on Sunday -- I wore a Raider Power shirt while hosting the services. Heading onto the stage coming out of a time worshiping God I was greeted by the crowd with boos while attempting to do the announcements. I don't have any real data to support this but I doubt that any church has as many people wearing Charger gear as we do -- I looked out amongst a see of Charger fans with jerseys, shirts and jackets this past weekend. Well it was fun banter from the stage to the crowd. Yet my wearing of a Raider shirt was not only a sign of team loyalty and a way of egging on fans of a team that has failed to win a Super Bowl. Contrast that to the Raiders who have won three (only the Pittsburgh Steelers, Dallas Cowboys and San Francisco 49ers have more championships), but it was also a way to breakdown barriers with our un-churched spiritually seeking guests. By having this type of dynamic in our services I believe it accomplishes the following: It shows that Christ followers can have fun (the stereotype being Christians are boring). It shows that Church can be fun (again the stereotype church is boring). It shows that we do not take ourselves (in particular the pastors) to seriously. It shows that we (church attending folks) are regular people that have similar interests to all people. It was another...
