Here are the last three books I have read in the past couple of weeks. On regular basis I try to read something connected with the subject matter of our current weekend service series or books dealing with issues or events that are taking place in the overall life of our church. For example for our God at the Movies I read Pop Goes the Church by Tim Stevens.
"I
Once Was Lost" by Don Everts. Don is a close friend and I simply read
everything he puts out. But this book I read specifically because 1.
He is speaking at our services this weekend and some of the content
from this book will be influencing his message and 2. On Sunday evening
from 6-7:30pm he will be doing seminar focussed on evangelism training
with the content and learnings coming directly from this book.
Good News About Injustice by Gary Haugen. The main reason for reading
this book is that he is one of the Leadership Summit Speakers and I try
to read books by the various speakers before the event. The other reason is its subject
matter dealing with social justice. We will be addressing this issue
of social justice on the weekend of July 18 & 20 when we kick off a
new series called "Sound Bites" with the message "The Weightier
Matters."
The Myth of a Christian Nation by Gregory Boyd. I read this book
mainly because this is a real hot topic right now being a political
year and I needed to read something that would help inform my thinking
on what is our response to be as Christ followers and as a church in
regards to sensitive political issues and politics as a whole. This book has also served well as our next series "Sound Bites" will address some political matters.
Lyn,
thanks for the recommendation. I already had it ordered. I should receive it today.
