I am Still Learning in Pre-School
One of the most critical roles of a leader, I believe, is to lead the way in being thankful, not only in his or her area of vocation but in all areas of his or her life. This helps in setting the tone and creates a culture of appreciation and thankfulness. This is also an area in my life I do not get right enough.
Yesterday I believe was one of the days I got it right. Several years ago I heard a message where the person speaking shared that whenever he would get invited to come and speak at his old church & former place of employment he would always make sure he visited the children's ministry area to thank all the teachers who invested in his children's lives over the years. That story has always stuck with me.
Yesterday, was my son's, Rhett, last day of preschool. I can't believe it.
First Day of Preschool Last Day of Preschool
This year even though my mother-in-law was going to pick up Rhett after school -- I still went with the sole purpose to thank his two teachers that he had over the last couple of years. I felt myself getting a little emotional as I expressed my gratitude to them for the investment they have made in my son -- I can see the positive effects they have had on his life. I could also tell it also meant a lot to them as well. Too often I can justify putting occasions like this off (like I did last year) making the excuse that there is always the next time. The funny thing is that the next time rarely ever comes. In addition, I was so tempted to wait until next year again as my daughter will be attending the same preschool and I was under pressure to meet a deadline. I was so glad I didn't as Rhett's teacher this year was her last as she retired yesterday after 10 years of being at the school.
I am still learning in Preschool.
